Kingsbridge, located in the Bronx, New York City. The neighborhood is named for the King's Bridge, erected in 1693 by Frederick Philipse, a local lord loyal to the British monarch. The bridge spanned a now-filled-in section of Spuyten Duyvil Creek, roughly parallel to the width of today's 230th and 231st Streets. It was (and still remains) buried beneath the ground when the man made 225th street canal was created and the bridge from Manhattan replaced by the Broadway Bridge. Once a haven largely composed of Irish immigrants, it is now a more diverse area comprised of various ethnicity's.
